‘Celebrating 10 years Providing Support for

People Living with Parkinson’s Disease

in the Scottish Borders 2000 – 2010’

Well did we hae a stoatin ‘ night in Darnick or what, oor first ever Parky Group Burns Supper seemed to hit the spot with all attending, I know what an amount of hard work went on behind the scenes to put this night together so to all who helped and you ken who you are .. be you peeling 5 hunner tatties!! Or helping clear the tables, dry dishes or extinguish Fires on the head table, also to all oor guests on the night on behalf of all attending can I say a muckle THANK YOU!! Without all this support this night would not have been as successful as it was.

Also inside this month’s newsletter……. IT’S ALL CHANGE FOR THE PARKINSON’S DISEASE SOCIETY…SCHOCHA NIGHT DETAILS …… BRAND NEW COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED!!

Don’t panic we’re not going anywhere……….. But we are changing oor identity. After 40 years of the Parkinson’s Disease Society they have decided to change the name. Over the years a lot of people with Parky and there families and friends have spoke of their dislike to the phrase Disease, as it gives the impression that you can catch Parkinson’s like a flu virus or sumfin’………… the organisation will very soon be known as

I am still awaiting a timetable for launching this new organisation ………….. Okay same organisation different name!!!

Parkinson’s UK does seem to roll off the tongue easier though ….. watch this space!!!

The Special fundraising Scocha night being organised is almost upon us, the night is scheduled for Saturday 6th March, 7.30 for 8pm, at Galashiels Academy, tickets priced £12 can be got at the following establishments…..Guess What? (across from Macaris and Salmon Inn in Galashiels, Spence’s Music Shop in Hawick, and Rogersons Newsagent in Selkirk. People can also get their tickets from the Day Hospital at the BGH.

For those who have never experienced a Schocha Concert, it is like the Corries if you mind them, but with attitude…………… a Schocha night is like a Crème Egg everybody loves it!!

To make this fund raising event a success we need everybody to tell there family, friends anybody you can and let them know where they can buy tickets. This is oor tenth year and oor first big fund-raiser and with everyone shouting about it we can make it a success.

If we have enough interest from members of the group we will put on transport to take you there and back from the usual pick up points although we could maybe swap Jedburgh, for Kelso as a pick up point……………… if members are booking tickets if you let Gary know so as he can weigh up whether we need transport organized ……….. So looking forward to seeing you there on the night...

At last months AGM we asked for volunteers to join the Committee for the Branch, and there was a marvellous show of hands, with his in mind the set up of the Branch in the Borders is…..

I hope you’ll agree this is the best set up we have had for years and I’d like to thank all of the above for being willing to give up their time to help us to continue to provide
