MONDAY MEETING ‘MONDAY 25TH FEBRUARY

This month’s meeting/drop in will be held on Monday 25th February. From 2 – 4 pm and is very informal and may also include a cuppa and a wee biscuit.

This month we welcome Magic Bob back as he holds a relaxation session. Also Jill Anderson Parky Nurse will be there to answer any queries you may have, and also let’s not forget Lesley Graham who will be there in her usual therapist role.

If you want to pop along even for the first time you will be made more than welcome. We look forward to seeing you there.

CALLING ALL YOUNG PARKYS

This month ten of us met at Nachos Fiesta in Gala on a scorching hot sunny evening, for an informal chit chat, a laugh and a giggle. This is fair taking off as a monthly event for younger people living with Parkinson’s, so if yer humming and hawing (if that’s how you spell hawing), about coming along just come along you’ll not regret it. The March meeting will be held on Tuesday 12th March at Nacho Fiesta in the High Street Galashiels, between 6 and 6.30. If you have any questions about this event just give him a call on 01750 22588 or text him on 07906 527 682.

Well those who ken Gary will know of his love and enthusiasm for AGM’s!! Aye right!! But casting my mind back to last month’s 2013 AGM, and all who attended, it was terrific to see so many of you turning  up. The Committee would like to all say thank you for the encouraging attendance it’s great to see so many people interested in what is going on at their local group.

The Committee were all voted back in I think? They were weren’t they?

The Committee remains the same your committee for 2013 is, Alan Robertson, Kelso, Rose Williamson also Kelso. Jill Anderson, oor Parky nurse. From Gala we have Jimmy Drover, and Tony Taylor, although he has to retire from the treasurer’s position Tony has offered to stay on as a committee member. We also have Jennifer Brown from Innerleithen.

Well that’s yer committee who will be working hard to continue our task of providing support in many ways to people living with Parkinson’s in the Scottish Borders.

This month’s Monday meeting will be held on Monday 25th February in the Chaplaincy Centre at the BGH. From 2-4 pm.......

Well I’ll leave in peace to read yer newsletter, and hopefully see you at the meeting.

PARKY AWARENESS WEEK 2013

This year’s awareness week will from 15th to the 21st April, with the focus on ‘changing attitudes’, trying to raise awareness with the public to avoid misunderstandings about the condition.

There are always plenty of events throughout the country but if you have an idea of anything we can do locally to help raise awareness if you speak to Gary or any members of the committee.

Parky’s who attended are pictured with Michael Moore are, Alan Robertson, Tony Taylor, Michael Moore MP, Bob Quillietti, Rose Williamson and Elizabeth Johnstone.

Also in attendance were Tanith Muller Parky UK and Steve Richardson also from Parky UK

MICHAEL MOORE MP

We’re the Parkinson’s support and research charity. Help us find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.

Picture the scene in the Hattie Hoose

‘Right Hilary that’s me away!’

‘Where are ye off to? Are ye taking that joke book over to Tony's?’

‘Naw am off tae meet with the Secretary of State for Scotland!!’

‘Ooooooooooooooooooooooh get you!!’

Well it wasnae just me there, there was a gang of us that headed to Newtoon to meet Michael Moore and explain our worries and concerns for the new PIP transfer which is happening soon.

I have to say that all the Parky’s were put at ease by Mr. Moore, which helped them to relax and feel comfortable enough to speak out to him about things that are causing them concern and might cause  unnecessary stress to their Parky’s.

Mr. Moore couldn’t promise he could do anything but he did make it clear that if people had individual problems they can see him at the surgeries he holds through out the Scottish Borders.

I think all attending felt the meeting was worthwhile and productive, in raising awareness of a policy change that doesn’t just affect us; but is something that would have the same effect on people who live with other conditions.
