REMEMBER COMMITTEE MEETING BEFORE AGM

Well a big hello to you all, well it’s been so long since ah’ve typed a newsletter ah’ve forgot how tae write it. Aye right!! How could I forget, as I remember that this starts our 16th year as a Support Group here in the Scottish Borders.

Aye sixteen years ago I sat down and typed a newsletter, oor first newsletter, on ma electric typewriter, sending out 35 newsletters. Now ah’ve got ma computer, ma laptop, ma mobile phone, an now courtesy oa Santa Claus I gottan IPad!! Which am still trying tae work, pullin all ma hair oot so am ur. All these modern pieces oa modern technology an am still making mistakes!  Okay admit it, you’d all hate it if ah changed!! Coz if ah changed I would nae be able to type ma favourite phrase, ‘Can ye spot how many deliberate mistakes ah’ve made in this newsletter!!’

So see if ye can spot how many!

Well so much has happened since our last newsletter if I’ve forgot somethin’ I apologise in advance, that was one thing that wisnae deliberate!! Hey … would you believe it as I type this it’s started to rain! Aye honestly nae kiddin. Well hope yer kettles boiled an you got yer cuppa in yer hand, well am gonnae shut up an let ye catch up on all the gossip, ENJOY!

Well whatta day we had at the panto, oh aye we did!! Fish an chips went down a treat, on arrival at the Juniper Lea Gary realised hadnae brought the cheque book!! After havin’ a whip round he managed to sort out the bill. One of our supporters over the years, Niki oa Nikis Bar in Gala fame, (she’s a legend) who we had invited along. Surprised us all when she presented a cheque to Tony before we departed for the panto. Many thanks Niki.

But more was to happen when we arrived at the theatre apart frae loosing everybody we were greeted by Magic Bob an his sister Magi Magz, Magz who worked for Greggs Bakers had a muckle cheque to present from their Community Fund.

Our thanks go to Greggs and also to Bob an Joyce who spent quite some time to applying for the grant from Greggs. Thank you everyone involved with this I think it’s safe to say steak bakes all round!!

So onto the panto, ‘Snowwhite an the Seven Dwarfs’ absolutely fantastic!! It just gets better every year!! Panto 2016 is Jack an the Beanstalk, watch this space!!

Yes it was a long day  but a day which is well worth it I’m sure everyone will agree!!

PARKY MALARKEY IN THE KITCHEN

This has been on sale throughout the festive season an Co has informed me so far they have raised ?  I’ll tell you in the next newsletter, once the Peebles Group has been informed. Co & Co have put so much work into this project, even renting a table at a Christmas Fayre in Peebles to sell the recipe books. Well some folk came along with hame baking, and they ended up making a fortune in the cakes and sold 2 recipe books.

A lot of you have been selling books throughout the Borders and I think a big thank you goes out to you all. Although somebody frae Gala who’ll remain nameless got a bit annoyed when he caught Margaret Shiell based in Selkirk selling books in Gala, his patch!! Nothing like a bit oa local rivalry, who is the disgruntled Gala Lad well his name will never be revealed by me!!

2015 CHRISTMAS MEAL

MONDAY MEETINGS

We’re the Parkinson’s support and research charity. Help us find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.

What a terrific afternoon 60 of you attended , it seems like it was months ago an no 3 weeks ish. I am please to announce that the raffle raised an absolutely fantastic £359.59!!! the highest amount we have ever raised, so to everyone who attended and donated to the raffle many, many thanks! I think the Peebles table is who I’m gonnae sit wi’ this year as they scooped up  a lot of prizes, no matter how much Jill mixed up the envelopes that was the place to sit!!

Congratulations must go to Charles from Innerleithen who won the Xmas Hamper, I have to apologise as in all the excitement Gary forgot to get a photo oa Charles with his Hamper, am slipping so am ur. We had so many donations we made up 3 hampers oa different sizes and about 12 gift bags or lucky bags. So a BIG THANK YOU goes out to you all!!

We’d like to thank Peter Hardy from Newcastleton, for entertaining us with his Xmas Melody, tremendous Peter, hope you can come back again this year.

I think we all  hadda very Merry Christmas indeed, I might like to add I think Gary won the best xmas bunnet competition, thanks Jill fur the photograph.

Well the last Monday meeting was way back in November and what an amazing turnout around 30 were in attendance that afternoon, our thanks go to our speakers Corrina Beighton and Nicky Kershaw, and also thanks to everyone who came along.

The first meeting if the year will be on Monday 25th January from 2-4 in the Chaplaincy Centre at the BGH. It would be great if you all come along as it is our AGM. After the AGM we will be welcoming Elizabeth Lerpiniere who is a student at Abertay University and she is looking for some help from us with research she is doing looking into the benefits Parky’s might get from dance therapy.

‘ Care furra burrel roon the hall doll?’

I better look oot ma white disco suit eh!!

‘are ye dancin?’

‘are ye askin?’

                           ‘am askin!’

‘well am dancin!’

As always cuppa an bikkys will be served, so that’s Monday 25th January 2-4.

A FIRST FOR GARY

November saw a first for Gary. In all his 23 years since being diagnosed he had never received a cheque from a belly dancer, who raised money through belly dancin’. Well that’s what happened at the Peebles cuppa ana chat group in November. Amanda Robertson whose grandad has Parkinsons, wanted to do something to help the group, well she succeeded with that, so she did. He’ll be expecting a full Chaplaincy Centre if Amanda ever comes along to give us a demonstration on the benefits of belly dancing. Many thanks Amanda
