DO YOU WISH TO JOIN PARKINSONS UK?

Gary has been approached by a coupla folk over the last month asking how they could join Parky UK. So thought we’d put a bit in this newsletter. Gary has membership forms on him most oa the time, (betchya the next time someone asks me ah havenae!!). Membership to Parky UK costs £4 per annum, for that you get a monthly magazine ‘the Parkinson, quarterly research update magazine ‘Progress,’ and twice a year you get the ‘Scottish Parkinson.’ All that fur just 4 pounds!!

Gary will bring forms with him to all the meetings if you wish to join up and keep informed on everything Parky just ask him furra form.

Bookings line for the steam railway has now been closed, but if you still wish to go we have a cancelation list on the go in case we have any call offs, so if you want to go on the reserve list get your details to Gary in the usual way.

Details for the day are - Sunday 26th June train departs 14.10, with afternoon tea on the train.

Bus details Innerleithen - 11.15 (co-op car park)

                  Galashiels – 11.40 (fountain)

St. Boswells – 12.00 (bus station)

We hope to arrive at Bo’ness for 13.30 ish to give you time to wander round the station.

For this trip Tony has suggested on the way home we should try and come down the Penicuik road dropping off at Innerleithen first, but if anyone wants off at Peebles this can be done, then Galashiels and St. Boswells. The bus will leave Bo’ness at 15.30.

As we said all bookings have closed and we have started a reserve list, just get yer details to Gary.

HELEN FORD SHARES HER THOUGHTS

For those of you who may ken Helen we have translated her teesh letter intae a borders lingo.

Gary (speechless) since Parky came into my life I got to know ME as a very different person. At first I thought why me but as I got to know Parky, I am not scared. Lifestyle has changed no more rock n roll dancing. However, I am getting a new hip, so Gary lookout! I could dare you to put on your nice tartan Bay City Roller jacket! Just a thought Gary, also I love ‘Oor News’ it’s great to read all about my Parky friends and all the wonderful fundraising.

Just a wee story about my Parkinson feelings.

Lots of kind wishes to you all.

Gary says, “Helen there is nae chance oa ma tartan jacket goin’ anywhere near Hawick once yer new hips an you is up an runnin!

Okay so Gary is on the look oot furra new crystal ball ma auld yins in the bin, after predicting the ‘Three Amigos’ wouldnae win the quiz two quizzes in a row! Yup in a tension filled Chaplaincy, you could cut the atmosphere wi’ a knife, such is the competition to win this beautiful trophy, Gordon Melrose donated the group, even better he was there to present the trophy to the winners.

The quiz was about the Borders and Gary had been a’ over the place in Noodles (that’s his car by the way). Anyway taking pictures from all over the Borders as it turned out. In a what some thought was difficult some easy.  One of the questions was a pic of an outside lavvy in Walkerburn, and it turns oot one oa the group used to use it on his way home from school.

This is an anagram oa this person’s name, the person who shared this fantastic memory was Atocts Dealwi. Thanks for sharing the memory.

It has to be said the winning team had an ace in their pack who was a wizard at this particular subject and he used to stay across the road from Sorrowless Field Mains Farm (those at the quiz will understand why I mentioned this). I’m sure if offered enough money he might transfer teams, an re-join his missus, we have been asked by him not to give his name out, but fur enough dosh Gary will!! But a have tae say well done to them they did only get one question wrong. One the group whose name has been anagrammed to protect him. Jim Drover said it was a fix coz they lost points coz they spelt ‘Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov’s’ name wrong. Quizmasters decision is final Mr Dee ooops! The winning team of the ‘Three Amigos’ deserve the plaudits for winning the quiz fur the second time an are pictured receiving the trophy from Gordon Melrose.

DISCLAIMER’

In last month’s newsletter there was an article titled ‘Peebles meeting so good he went there twice!! ‘it gave the impression that Jim Drover was involved in this incident, we would like to clear his name and say that Jim was an innocent party in this event and only volunteered to be Gary’s co driver after Gordon Melrose pulled out!!

Jim Drover, Alan Robertson and John Shiell from Gordon Melrose

For the rest oa ye get reading yer encyclopaedia’s, coz the October quiz resorts back to the previous format of General Knowledge, TV and Music. Good luck to you all, and as I eat ma humble pie I have to say very well done to the Three Amigos, Gary did think it would have been quite a difficult quiz so yes well done Jim, Alan an John.
